It's difficult to live life on our own terms these days. Our kids can no longer leave the house by themselves after breakfast on a Saturday and stay out safely till dinner. Our close friends are usually at least a car ride and often a plane flight away. Our careers – pursued at full tilt – can be terribly destructive to life at home. And focusing on our passions – playing a musical instrument, volunteering, painting, sculpting, practicing yoga, cooking, discussing politics, going to the movies, dancing tango, mentoring others – when is there time for that?
Life plays out a lot differently in a Hive Community. It's safe for children, a haven for deep friendships, a balance for a demanding career, and the most amazing place you've ever experienced to pursue your passions in earnest.
The concept of the Hive Community has many influences, including university residential program houses, cohousing communities, annual family celebrations, chautauqua institutes, artist colonies, free schools, and urban lofts.
In the fall of 2009, one hundred thirty-five adults and children (and their pets) will move into America's first Hive Community, Hive River North, in the heart of urban Denver (map) and – together – pursue a life fully lived.
